There used to be no \n in front of the PAUSE message.  I added it when
I did the PAUSE message since

1) it looks cleaner (no trailing status line garbage after the
   "  =====  PAUSE  =====  ")

2) it's sometimes useful to pause and have a look at what the status
   line is saying
