OK, so I see it's used, but I still find it annoying.
I guess it's time to make a patch.
Just tell me what do you think it should be named
(-keep-status-line-on-pause looks a bit too long for me ;)
and what the default state should be.
And allow me some time, it'll be the first time I take a look at MPlayer
code, so I have to get familiar with options parser.

I agree that it looks cleaner without the mess left from status line,
I'll just have to live with it.
