I did a new CVS build today for a retest.
MPlayer dev-CVS-050424-18:11-3.3.5 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team

steps get mplayer and ffmpeg source code  from CVS
cp libavcodec and libavformat dir into MPlayer source from ffmpeg
cp amr_float and amrwb_float source from 3gpp.org zip files into libavcodec dir 
./configure --disable-internal-tremor
make
./mplayer sound.amr

refetched all samples from MPlayer HQ to make sure we had the same files.
all files played fine with no EOF issues for me as before.
Athlon 1800+ processor.

still unsure why you have these errors and I have not.
