When I write mplayer - slave, mplayer goes to slave mode but doestnt
respond to any of the command.

I've never used slave mode yet, but meanwhile, I'd advise you to help
yourself with the slave commands that are all listed in
DOCS/tech/slave.txt.

Other than than the slave mode, if I remember correctly, is activated
by the "-slave" option. Your should find even more informations in the
HTML doc and man page.
