Just to make it clear why mplayer assumes 4:3 aspect instead
of square pixels and that it was not a random choice for
some shitheads who are not willing to configure their X server:
At the time when this code was written, it was quite common
to use a non-square pixel resolution to get most space out of
a CRT given a certain pixel clock (ie the maximum pixel clock
the monitor could cope with). This was necessary as 15" CRTs
were the biggest monitors "normal" people had. TFTs weren't
an issue as the only TFTs one could afford were those in
laptops.
Yes, that was quite some time ago, when .so still maintained
the x11 code. And those times have changed. But please do
not acuse anyone of sticking to some stupid configuration
that nobody else has.
