I don't think the problem is with valid MP3 streams but with invalid
ones. Like my all-time most hated app Nandub. It achieves audio/video
sync in AVIs by padding the audio stream with random data. And that
random data has more often than not contained a valid MP3 or AC3

Just as an additional note.
