Dunno WTF was going on there in my tree, but after a distclean and
rebuild your patch now does indeed fix this sample.

Unfortunately this has an adverse effect on the samples provided by
Roberto, now the 2 chanel ones work instead of the 1 channel ones.
The solution to this must lie somewhere else.
