[MPlayer-dev-eng] to mute or not to mute

Heyo Boys and Girls,

I just had a discussion with a friend about muting in MPlayer.
His problem was, that he wanted to listen to a radio stream for
a short time, while MPlayer was still playing. The current
code sets the master channel to 0, thus completely disabling any
audio. He wrote for himself a little patch that sets the audio
data to zero instead of playing with the mixer (see the attached file).
Although this is an ugly hack, it shows where the problem lies.

Does anyone have a better idea how to fix this problem ?
