i got the info from the matroska ssa page:

maybe it contains some usable info for you too...

there is a matroska sample file
http://www.matroska.org/samples/mewmew/index.html

which contains ssa subtitles (in around 10languages)..

you can use mkvtoolnix
http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/

to extract them so you can try them also as external files.
