Well, I think the former version was more speed (and size) effective, but 
input interface of mplayer is not the proper place for such optimizations. 
Readability is more important here (and I've finally got rid of that ugly 
while(1) loop).

I agree, that's why I've inserted the "default:" branch right _before_ the 
mp_msg() call. Not noisy enough?

Do you mean to suggest the list renaming to mplayer-art-eng? If you need
