-vo png, for example, wants something RGB-like.
Sure, it's usually not performance-critical, and -vf scale helps. But still an 
inconvenience. Also, it should work considerably faster with RGB and 4:4:4 
planar formats.

The latest patch contained a bug, corrected version attached.
