It does. No segfaulting anymore. :)

Still, if I don't have ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf and the sub uses some font
I don't have, no subs will be displayed. Why?

Of course, symlinking subfont.ttf to some font file makes it work,
but I didn't compile in fontconfig support to still have to keep subfont.ttf.

Also the fonts are tiny and barely readable. Is there any way to control
their size?

Other than that, it seems to work fine with the samples I have. Good work!
