Is there any chance we can configure the mailing lists to strip this
nonsense? smime attachments add about 4k to each email that includes
one. On a list with thousands of emails per year, this adds up to
significant additional storage. IMO the issue is the same as text vs
html. The mailing list should only accept plain text.
