Don't know for sure, but xine displays it for 5-15 seconds.

Hmm.. How can I check it?

Status bar in mplayer shows
V:  21.5   2/  2  0%  2%  0.0% 0 0 0% 

It can stay forever like this.

xine's progress bar doesn't move and its timer is at zero. After a
while, screen just changes (and the timer starts, unless there is
another still frame).
