My goal is to get it into SVN, and currently I consider git a
not-so-good choice for the _central_ repository.
git-svn to me seems to work well enough to provide developers with the
ability to use git to me, without scaring anyone away who prefers to use
SVN with its more advanced GUI support.

SVN is a reviewed version, that is the only argument and unfortunately
that is enough for me.

Changes to SVN are reviewed, changes to git not, and I will commit crap
to the git repository which would be plain unacceptable in SVN
(that is what it exists for).
Moving things as soon as I consider them non-crappy means I don't have
to bother with it / filter it out when I do a "git diff" and others
don't have to review later as part of a giant patch.
