[MPlayer-dev-eng] utf-16 encoded subtitle files

Hello everyone,

mplayer fails with a rather unhelpful message ("could not detect file
format") in case of utf-16 encoded subtitle files passed to the -sub
parameter. Attached is a patch that gives a more helpful message about
the unsupported character encoding.

This is my first patch contribution to an open source project, so any
feedback highly appreciated.
