Hi,

Here is a patch to add a new video filter to mplayer. This filter 
performs a temporal smoothing of brightness and can be used to improve 
visual quality of digitized old films that suffer from a "flicker" 
effect. It is based on histogram matching between the current processed 
frame and a moving time-average of previous frames.

Here is an example of what this filter does:
