As ffmpeg maintainer and leader of thouse not supporting them, i must sadly
confirm this, yes there was a illegitimate takeover

The official ffmpeg repository where thouse who are against this takeover
continue to work on ffmpeg can be found at
   git clone git://git.videolan.org/ffmpeg <target>

  This will put the FFmpeg sources into the directory <target>.

    git clone git at git.videolan.org:ffmpeg <target>

  This will put the FFmpeg sources into the directory <target> and let
  you push back your changes to the remote repository.


All mplayer developers are also welcome to contribute to us and i offer
write accounts to all mplayer developers who want one and who is ok with the
development policy

Also if anyone needs it, personal forks of ffmpeg can probably be hosted on
videolan too (not my decission, but it was offered for all ffmpeg developers who
have a _reason_ to need such fork, and it can surely help to have a place where
you are the final boss about what goes in)

Iam also gitadmin there so there wont be problems with root again. people
violating rules will get a personal mail or IRC ping from me and repeated
offenders especially when its obviously not a mistake will get their account
closed.
