Probably things got too busy.
I may have contributed to the delay by asking if you should try to get rid of the other deprecated FFmpeg functions we are still using before.
Actually the best approach would be to see if everything compiles and works when manually bumping all FFmpeg major versions... 
Though in principle we can release without that.
