Nonsense, for details see the discussion on ffmpeg-devel.

The effect of the wording change is nil.  If MPlayer did not implement
those techniques we would not be complaining in the first place.  There
simply is no difference with regard to acknowledging patents between
both versions of the sentence.

I'm going to reverse this, this text is used in several places already.
