I tried:
mplayer 3.mpg -ss 00:08:11 -vo null 2>/dev/null | grep A: 
The time 00:08:11 is 2 sec befor the end of media file, but I got no result.
with
mplayer 3.mpg -ss 00:08:11 -vo null 2>/dev/null
The output is:
