Yes. trivial. But, have you ever looked at the X sources?
I'll die before find it in it.

Anyway, I asked it on the DRI-devel list, and they said, that
memory size can't be detected without trying to write and read
back memory. But there are problems with write-back cache, and
MTRR too, so this is not a simple process... I think, using a
quite-good (works in most cases) detection and a module option
for weird cards is ok for us.

But, I want to see patches for this problem :)

And, what about the G200-YV12 problem? Could you debug it?
