Ok. So your audio card is the problem.
Btw I did some calc too...
In your prev. test mplayer played 55 sec of video in 60 sec.
55/60=0.916666
44/48=0.916666

so it's because your audio card plays 48khz audio at 44khz.
(and video is synced to audio)

Both (xine & wmp) supports audio downsampling (converting audio bitrate
48->44khz). Mplayer doesn't (yet).
