[Mplayer-users] Mplayer and Freebsd compile failed

I am running Freebsd 4.3-stable and I downloaded 0.18pre and I get the
following error when I do a make after a successful ./configure

bash-2.05$ make
"Makefile", line 125: Missing dependency operator
"Makefile", line 127: Need an operator
"Makefile", line 132: Missing dependency operator
"Makefile", line 133: Could not find .depend
"Makefile", line 134: Need an operator
make: fatal errors encountered -- cannot continue
bash-2.05$
