The docs say 0.9x is buggy not 0.5x.  I actually don't know why it is using 
OSS emulation.  All I can guess is that I have setup OSS emulation and it is 
choosing that over the native alsa driver.  I'll try the swtich to force it 
to use alsa5.

It crashes using fbdev, it also crashes with -vo null.  I'm just trying vo 
null and -aid 128...seems better

-vo x11 also crashes.  I haven't tried the nvidia drivers..will give that a 
blast tomorrow.

I can't really comment, except to say I have never seen any sort of video 
instability with any other app.  Xine runs fine.  I'll try a few other video 
apps and see if they have problems.

No it didn't, it played about 2 minutes into the stream then exited!
It just exited again with eof, but it is a long way from eof!  I copied the 
dvd over to my hard disk to rule out the dvd drive.  It did go for a lot 
longer with -aid 128.  I can't help feeling reiserfs has something to do with 
all of this.
