[Mplayer-users] -ao null

I came across a strange problem with mplayer last night.  I ran it with
the command mplayer -vo sdl -ao null /mnt/cdrom/video_ts/vts_01_1.vob
(it is an unencrypted dvd) and it ran *really* slow (.6 fps, or so, but
nothing else was wrong).

Is this a known issue (I didn't find anything in the docs/bugs files) or
is it just me?

My system info:
Dell Inspiron 7500
PIII 750 with speedstep
ATI Rage Mobility P
Mandrake 8.0
GCC 3.0

I was also using a mplayer from last week's CVS.
