Well, i'm using GCC 2.95.3, so i'm pretty sure that it supports C++ 
fully.  I've also had no other troubles that i can think of resulting 
from not having C++ libraries.  the C lib that i do seem to have is 
called 'libc.a'.  i figure that's the one cause it's about 26 MB big. 
 it's in /usr/lib.

In case this is useful, i'm running RH 7.1 with 2.4.9 kernel and a not 
so close to stock setup.  (like the fully fucntional compiler :)
