Yes, you are right, in config.h is the line
#undef HAVE_XDPMS
I have also looked at the configure script and I have found that this
happens when libXdpms is missing. I really can't find this library (it is
not present in 4.0.2/4.0.3 binary distribution ??!!??, but why the
old mplayer versions worked?).
