According to intel's site:
"
Intel? C++ Compiler 5.0 for Linux*
Is inline assembly supported?

Inline assembly is only supported by the IA-32 C++ compiler, icc, and
icpc. Unixware* and Microsoft MASM* formats are available. We are
investigating support of the GNU gas format in future releases. There is
no support for inline assembly on the Intel&E174; Itanium^(TM)
architecture.
"

so it seems that inline asm IS supported, only gas style isn't ( hmm, i
thought MASM style was kind of one of two main styles, I didn't even know
gas has it's own style ).
Seems like it can get better on compiler front ( I haven't received my
flexlm licence until now so I can't even try icc ... boy do I love GPL )
