as a temporal workaround:

use mencoder to transcode dvd to avi with PCM audio, and then -dumpaudio
from PCM avi. resulting file is stereo 16bit PCM, should be accepted by lame
or can be converted to WAV by sox.

i'll add audio-only dump function to mencoder.
