Try playing the movie with nosound and see if it is still jumpy.
If yes, try with an other player (for example windows media player) to
check if this player has the same problem.
Yes: It's most probably missencoded and can't be fixed by mplayer.
No: The information is in the file but not found by mplayer. Try to
create a small video with this problem and submit it with full
bugreport.
Not sure if this helped, but these are at least a few more steps.
