well, using mplayer is the nicest experience in watching movies what can happen to you ;-)

you are complaining about everything,
so why don't you start and emphasis the good points ?

you are writing about open source ?

so what ?

we can be gratefull to every piece of software,
that makes our live more easy and usefull.

mplayer is such a thing

regarding the new political issues about DRM, DVD, ..
GPL like software would be the greatest approach to freedom
we may have ..

why don't you add your energy to the mplayer project
and turn the hell to heaven ?

go on, write and add a kinda configure script which fullfills
all your needs ..

why don't you be positiv and just introduce those dummy users
to the very easy little installation steps.

ok, you did it in your artical, but 'com on, skip that 
bad attitude.
emphasise what mplayer does for you after the installation ..

and i really ROTFL after reading your article, where you wrote,
that you started mplayer and you had to bypass a movie file on the
command line ;-))
'cause then you wrote, how heavy it was for you to DOWNLOAD A MOVIE
WITH GNAPSTER !

btw: 

i am one of the hell members who added a very little piece
of the big cake (the vo_gl2.c modules ;-)

and it was a easy to show friends, how to integrate this greatest
movie player on GNU/Linux to their rock solid box ..

linux is user friendly, it just depends who it's friends are ;-))
