 That's what I did exactly.

 This was a qualitative assesment, and it turns out that I was wrong,
 I did a further comparison, and the mga driver, just like the syncfb
 is very dark on my TV.  It looks like there might be support in both
 of them for brightness and contrast soon though (hopefully)

 To clarify, MPEG2 plays fine under -xv, -x11, and -mga as long as I
 use -nosound.  The problem I am having with white screen video under
 -vo mga is with DivX ;-)
