maybe it's not true for all CPUs

at least not for mine:

MPlayer 0.17cvs-010706-12:13

CommandLine: '-vo' 'null' '/mnt/frutty/Games/movie/vagyamit.avi' '-nosound' '-osdlevel' '0' '-v' '-frames' '500' '-benchmark'

VIDEO:  [DIV3]  384x288  24bpp  29.97 fps  1161.7 kbps (141.8 kbyte/s)
[V] filefmt:3  fourcc:0x33564944  size:384x288  fps:29.97  ftime:=0.0334
Found video codec: [ffdivx] drv:5 (FFmpeg DivX ;-) (MS MPEG-4 v3))

BENCHMARKs: V:  19.402s VO:   0.005s A:   0.000s Sys:   0.081s =   19.488s
BENCHMARK%: V: 99.5590% VO:  0.0266% A:  0.0000% Sys:  0.4144% = 100.0000%

same version, same options (and after reediting codecs.conf) :

Found video codec: [divxds] drv:4 (DivX ;-) (MS MPEG-4 v3))

BENCHMARKs: V:  13.535s VO:   0.005s A:   0.000s Sys:   0.108s =   13.647s
BENCHMARK%: V: 99.1751% VO:  0.0345% A:  0.0000% Sys:  0.7904% = 100.0000%

and with VfW (-nodshow) :

Found video codec: [divx] drv:2 (DivX ;-) (MS MPEG-4 v3))

BENCHMARKs: V:  13.889s VO:   0.005s A:   0.000s Sys:   0.086s =   13.980s
BENCHMARK%: V: 99.3531% VO:  0.0352% A:  0.0000% Sys:  0.6118% = 100.0000%

I wouldn't say, ff is faster in this case. (P200MMX)
