[Mplayer-users] broken movie?

i've got a broken asf movie. when mplayer reaches the broken bit, it
terminates. if i fast-forward past it, the rest plays fine. the bad part is
that if i don't ffwd in the right moment, i hit the bad spot and mplayer
terminates.  worse yet, i must fast forward from the beginning of the movie,
because for some reason if i use -ss, the seek bar osd doesn't disappear at
all. isn't it possible to search for the next good chunk when the player hits
a corrupted part of the video, instead of terminating?

also i have another broken movie, this time an avi. with it it is impossible
to even skip past the broken section. when played with aviplay, though, the
movie only skips at that point and then continues normally. i know that
mplayer isn't avifile, but since avifile can do it, it is possible. on the
other hand, avifile behaves much worse with the broken asf - it just states
that the broken point is the end of the movie and there is no way to get past
it. AFAIK, windoze media player stops the movie at such breaks, but you can
still seek past it.

is there any solution to this?
