btw. I guess that mp.pl is not doing what you expect, it does:
mplayer -ss 01:18:00 avi1
mplayer -ss 01:18:00 avi2

please try mplayer -ss 01:18:00 
/home/andre/incoming/almost.famous.cd2.dvdrip.divx-dominion.avi and check if 
you get the above error.
