It's an older versions of the ms mpeg 4 V3 codec, which usually keeps
bitrate quite low and increases it for high motion scenes, this gives
better quality with lower bitrate (1cd movies) for action scenes, but
degrades quality for still scenes. Unless you're going to use both
fast and low motion and cut together video (like Makefilm TNG does or
ProjectDivX).

If you only use a single codec you should always stick with divx low
motion codec, Btw. for good quality rips that fit onto one cd it needs
some skill and extra soft, take a look at www.nandub.org and
www.doom9.net for guides how to use it to make quality rips (btw. it
also improves quality of your 2 cd rips).
