Hi!
My system is Celeron-266, S3 Virge/DX 2 MB, Red Hat 7.1, XFree 4.0.3.
dmesg says the following about the soundcard:
Soundblaster audio driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
sb: Creative ViBRA16X PnP detected
sb: ISAPnP reports 'Creative ViBRA16X PnP' at i/o 0x220, irq 5, dma 1, 3
SB 4.16 detected OK (220)
SB16: Bad or missing 16 bit DMA channel
sb: 1 Soundblaster PnP card(s) found.
While playing mpeg-1 files from the harddrive or VideoCDs, the sound is,
well, hoarse. Don't know how to describe it exactly. If you've tried to
play an audio file on PC speaker with interrupts turned on, it's quite
like that.
-noalsa, -framedrop, -hardframedrop, -abs 1000000, hdparm -u 1, setting up
mtrr, playing via x11 driver all don't help. -vo null does help however,
but that's not a solution. :) The video card is fast enough and the sound
card is ok I think, because mtvp, smpeg, and windows media player all play
the same files and discs without a hitch. Might be a problem with mplayer.
Here's what it says:
[ak at cave ak]$ mplayer/main/mplayer -vcd 1
