You are way too generic here 2.96.x as and bee seen has many subversions,
and releases. The latest redhat upgrade for 7.1 is release 81 and works
great for me. It compiles the kernel, a lot of apps, PPro optimized, and
of course mplayer, working w/ avi, MPEG, etc.

I am not sure it happened exactly like this. I have also used redhat's
bugzilla site to report a bug, what is gcc connected, and although it took
a while, they got back to me in approx. one and a half week.

They had bugs as everyone does, first and foremost, we should state in the
README and the FAQ to upgrade the gcc to the latest update, and retry,
before reporting a bug.
