I had the same cpu and a G200 and have pretty much the same experience.
It works much better with a G450.

Hm, How do measure the %cpu consumed by the video codec alone?
There is actual decoding of the ac3 stream involved as well, but 30% sounds a
little on the high side for audio decoding alone. Try with the null video
output and see how much cpu is consumed.
