Hmm. I have:
arpi:~# ld -v
GNU ld version 2.9.1 (with BFD 2.9.1.0.25)
arpi:~# gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-slackware-linux/2.95.2/specs
gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)

It works. But every version should work, at least binutils 2.9 and 2.10
(gcc doesn't matter here, this is asm code, not C)
