Doesn't seem to work, at least with -xv null it gives very strange results:
(can't check with output at the moment, as I'm not at home):

If you're not interested in report (as it's just a hack), just ignore...

Mplayer runs for a second, A-V drops to -0.3 or so. Then it stops for a moment, 
then A-V is +0.3, it runs again about 2 seconds till A-V is -0.3, stops etc...

perhaps because of the calculated delay -0.7 ?

-delay doesn't change anything. -bps doesn't either.

Also %age is strange, 0% for decoding is not very much, I guess. Old mplayer 
had output like this (same file, of course):
