The `-lameopts br=xxx' doesn't seem to have any effect on file
output (size and contents).

I tested:

mencoder -frames 200 -vc null -lameopts br=192 -o n192.avi myhomevideo.avi
mencoder -frames 200 -vc null -lameopts br=160 -o n160.avi myhomevideo.avi
mencoder -frames 200 -vc null -lameopts br=128 -o n128.avi myhomevideo.avi
mencoder -frames 200 -vc null -lameopts br=96 -o n96.avi myhomevideo.avi

All of these generated identical 14kb files.

The version of mencoder I tested was from archive MPlayer-20011113.
(btw: it would be nice is mencoder also printed its version with date
 so one can be sure which version is used when reporting).
