(not sure if this belong to this forum).

GCC is for development only. GCC is not required if you only run
installed programs. Also, at least LM 8.1 is designed such that you can
have multiple versions of gcc. Check /etc/alternatives or set the proper
variables before ./configure. However, keep in mind that C++ stuff
(dshow) easily breaks if objects or libs are compiled with different
versions and then linked together.
