Almost lost hope for a while there,
but i finaly got it working.

Thanks to the developers. Very good work !
Best player for linux so far!

I have a mandrake 8.1
CPU: k6 2-500
No 3dgraphicscard
Got it working with:
mplayer -vo x11 <moviefile>

Here is what i did:
upgraded to:
(type: rpm -Fvh XYZ.rpm)
gcc3.0-3.0.2-1mdk.i586.rpm
gcc3.0-colorgcc-3.0.2-1mdk.i586.rpm
gcc3.0-cpp-3.0.2-1mdk.i586.rpm
(gcc 3.02 was OK for me, but not gcc 2.95. That possibly not gcc 2.95 fault,
but more likely mine)
glibc-2.2.4-11mdk.i586.rpm
libgcc3.0-3.0.2-1mdk.i586.rpm
glibc-devel-2.2.4-11mdk.i586.rpm
glibc-profile-2.2.4-11mdk.i586.rpm
libbinutils2-2.11.92.0.7-2mdk.i586.rpm
libstdc++3.0-3.0.2-1mdk.i586.rpm
binutils-2.11.92.0.7-2mdk.i586.rpm
+ any rpm that one of the above was dependant upon.

Upgraded kernel with:
First:
rpm -Fvh --nodeps iptables-1.2.4-2mdk.i586.rpm
THEN:
rpm -ivh kernel-2.4.13-9mdk.i586.rpm

Changed and used Xfree86 4.1 instead of 3.whatever.

Prayed a lot :)

Get packages from a mirror close to you
Check www.linux-mandrake.com
or download from
www.rpmfind.net

The kernel should be upgraded anyways, so i threw that in as well.
Possibly i forgot some packages,
and some upgrades was not necessary,
but the main thing is to upgrade basically everything that could matter.
