because the man who said it wasn't member of mplayer team...
send bugs to him then :)
we (mplayer developers) don't accept gcc 2.96 as a valid compiler.
(check GNU.org, the latest official 2.x release was 2.95.3)
although, some people reported here that latest gcc 2.96 works. it seems it
doesn't... at least for you.
