[Mplayer-users] xvideo mode plays back as green bars on linux

Whenever I play back any video in mplayer on linux, using xv mode the video
outputs as a screen full of green bars or other similar garbage.  The audio
plays back fine and there are no errors on stdout.  This occurs with all
videos I've tried, which includes divx, mpeg and mpeg-2 formats.

If I use x11, dga or fbdev it plays back fine, however these don't support
fullscreen. 

I am using:
XFree 4.1.0
a savage4+ chipset
PIII 533

I have tried it on 
Mandrake 8.1
Suse 7.2 

FreeBSD 4.4
  could get xv mode to work properly in FreeBSD on exact same computers and
same XFree version

It compiled without errors on both linux platforms.

Any suggestions?
