Is there somewhere some doc or some specific info about this
"mysterious" gcc-2.96 bug? I couldn't find it anywhere nor some
relevant red hat's developpers didn't know about anything about it
(looks like nobody cares reporting bugs). This could help to get it
fixed if it's not already.

Can you make some testcase? So we can test which versions of 296 is
buggy and which is not. Could this testcase be automagically used in
./configure to detect really buggy compiler?

I'm using athlon optimized mplayer on Red Hat 7.1+ and current Red Hat
Rawhide without any problems (athlon, G450).

(for me personally, the gcc296 from rh7.1 updates and from current
rawhide are the most solid compilers at this time; 295 is not bugfree
and cannot produce code for some archs, 30x is not solid yet)

Have a nice day and thanks for your GREAT movie player
