$ cp mplayer /usr/local/bin/mplayer
$ strip /usr/local/bin/mplayer
$ chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/mplayer

You probably don't have /usr/local/man in system manpath, so there
use copying the manual page.

I suggest `install.sh' is included into mplayer distribution and that
script is run w/ `make install'
