Hello!

News: I've added software scaling to vo_vesa driver.
Usage: mplayer -vo vesa -zoom filename

And I've measured performance of this driver again:
Hardware: Duron-700 + ATI Radeon VE.
VideoStream: DVD mpeg2 (non-interlaced) 720x480 at 16.

mplayer's non scaled output 1x1 (from middle):
A: 31.3 V: 32.0 A-V: -0.671 ct: -2.513 853/759 33% 25% 4.5% 7 0

mplayer's scaled output 1xfullscreen (from middle):
A: 1.5 V: 1.6 A-V: -0.077 ct: -0.083 34/ 31 31% 47% 4.1% 0 0

I guess that maximal values should be 35% 50% 4.5% and result 90% of CPU usage.

Traditionally - I've lost 0 frames during watching 3 minutes of DVD stream!!!

Thus vo_vesa driver is quite usable even for value-pc systems.

Best regards! Nick
